SISTEMA FONEMICO UTILIZADO PARA EL
LACANDON

El "alfabeto" (o sistema fon6mico) que les
ensefl^ a los lacandones de Najd; puede represen-
tarse por medio del cuadro fonemico que a
continuacion se presenta, aunque los au tores lacan-
dones no siempre lo respetaron muy religiosa-
mente que digamos.

PHONEMIC SYSTEM USED FOR LACANDON

The "alphabet" (or phonemic system) which
I taught the Lacandones of Naha' may be represented
by the following phonemic chart, though the
Lacandon authors did not always conform to this
system of writing in a manner which could be
qualified as "religiously".

Vocales largas: Las mismas vocales del lacand6n
pueden ser cortas o largas fondmicamente, aunque
en estos textos los autores lacandones casi siempre
omiten registrar la cantidad vocalica. (Yo les habia
ensenado a escribir las vocales largas aa, ee, iU etc.)

Long vowels: The same Lacandon vowels may be
short or long phonemically, even though the
Lacandon authors ahnost invariably failed to register
vowel length in these texts. (I had taught them to
write the long vowels aa, ee, ii, etc.)
